October 27, 2008

A few reminders as we move into the holidays and end 2008

1)    HLL Academy Starts Sunday 11/2

What:  Baseball Skills Training from Profession Baseball Instructors/Athletes

      Time:   9-10:30

      Ages:   8-12

Place:  The World gym-7001 S. Adams St, Willowbrook

Cost:    $25 per session           $110 for 5 sessions

      Info:     Register at http://www.hinsdalell.org/page.asp?PageID=107

2)    HLL Media 2009

HLL is looking for aspiring broadcasters and journalists for the 2009 season. Opportunities are open for weekly “sports center” anchor people, game broadcasters, weekly journalists, game announcers and photographers. We are also looking for parent volunteers to help manage HLL media. This is a great opportunity for high school and collage aged kids to get exposure to journalism on local cable TV and in the newspaper.  For information please contact Rich Simon (r.simon@comcast.net).

3)    HLL Family Fundraiser 2009

Calling all HLL Mom’s…As painful as some may think, HLL has decided to move beyond the traditional “Smoker” to a Family Centered Baseball Event at the Community House next Spring. Since us guys only know how to purchase cigars and large quantities of ale, we are reaching out to the HLL Mom’s to help organize the event. If anyone is interested please contact Rich Simon (r.simon@comcast.net).

4)    Baseball Christmas Gifts

I know it’s not even Halloween, but since every store has had their Christmas garb out since Labor Day, I thought I’d mention this…During all HLL Academy Sessions and  HLL Tryouts (mid Feb), Wilson Baseball equipment will be for sale. We will have the newest and best baseball equipment at unbelievable prices. Also, we will have equipment for all age groups to ensure your child has the right size glove and bat for the 2009 season.

5)    HLL 2009 – Play Hard, Play Here

As we move into the 2009 season, we need to keep focused on the purpose of kid sports in general.  Jere Longman wrote a great article about Elena Delle Donne that we all should take to heart and make sure we give our kids a chance to be kids and play sports together with all their friends.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/19/sports/ncaabasketball/19athlete.html

On a final note, when you see Steve McKenna at Starbucks or next season at Pierce Park, please give him a pat on the back for an unbelievable job serving at HLL President. HLL is stronger than ever thanks to his hard (and thankless) work. As for myself, feel free to approach me at anytime with questions or concerns. I am 6' 3", with strikingly handsome features and thick dark hair. I don't wear glasses or baseball caps. If you can't find me, please feel free to harass Steve.
Enjoy the Holiday's and Looking forward to a great 2009 Season.

HLL MEDIA

Hi everyone! Alex Klein here. I'm the guy who reads your emails to info@hinsdalell.org, posts score updates and changes, and manages the HLL MEDIA program. I am a rising sophomore at Duke and I just returned for the summer. This is going to be my third summer working with HLL, and I'm very excited about some of our new programs this year!

I want to tell you a little more about HLL MEDIA. Currently, we have about 5 high school photographers that take about 250 pictures a week for about 10 games per week. I personally post announcements on team pages that let you know when one of your games has been photographed. We're trying to hit them all! Make sure to check your team page(s) often to see if we've been at any of your games.

Also, we're working on letting you purchase pictures that these aspiring photographers take. We'll be rolling out that feature shortly.

In the coming weeks, our awesome HLL MEDIA coordinator, Nick Bucheleres, a Hinsdale Central junior, will be introducing live announcers, student bands on the weekends, and much more. His ultimate task is to make the World Series Day the best it's ever been. He's got a few surprises up his sleeve; stay tuned. These are exciting times for Hinsdale Little League!

Lastly, we are always looking for more photographers, announcers, writers, and even video broadcasters to work with HLL MEDIA. It's a great gig - the pay is good, you work outside, you work when you want, and you have fun doing it. If you, your son or daughter, his or her friends, or anyone else is interested, email me at info@hinsdalell.org.

As always, feel free to email me about any problems, concerns, questions, or comments you have!

Have a great season,

Alex
