HLL 2011 All Star Tournament Updates:

The 8YO Red All Stars had a terrific season, competing in three area tournaments and compiling an overall 11-2 record.  The highlight of the team’s All-Star campaign was a victory in the challenging Evergreen Park tournament, where the team went 6-0 overall, defeating the host Evergreen Park team in the semifinals and edging the HLL 8YO Black All-Stars 2-1 in a hard-fought championship game.  The team boasted strong pitching and defense combined with timely hitting and outstanding team speed.

The 8YO Black All Stars finished with a record of 11-3.  They won the Hinsdale tournament and took second place in the Evergreen Park tournament.  All three losses were of the one run variety.  Highlights included two 3-run home runs to win tight games, a two out bases loaded double to win a game in the last inning, a stellar double play starring the center fielder to preserve a 5-4 win, and a walk-off double to win a game completing a heroic comeback from a 10-5 late inning deficit.  The successful tournament season was the result of great team play with outstanding contributions from all players.

The 9YO Red All Stars completed a very successful tournament season finishing with a record of 14-2.  They won the Hinsdale tournament, beating the Hinsdale Black All Stars in the championship game.  They placed second in the Glen Ellyn and Oak Lawn tournaments, meeting the Hinsdale Black All Stars in the championship game on both occasions.

The 10YO All Star District Team went undefeated in District and Sectional competition this summer.  In State tournament play, they finished in fourth place losing games to eventual champion Jackie Robinson West and second place finalist Tuscola.  This was a talented and motivated group who demonstrated good sportsmanship to all their opponents.  They proved to be great representatives for Hinsdale Little League and their community.

“I have never seen a team play better as a team or show more heart – all the time being short-handed.  My hats off to this team!”  Those were the words of the opposing head coach after seeing the energy and will of the 10YO All Star Tournament Team.  Despite being short-handed, the team fought its way into the final round in the 16 team Lombard tournament.  The tournament culminated in a triple-header on a 100 degree day that included a 12-10 comeback victory against a tough Oak Park squad.  In the final round, Oak Lawn was just too much as Hinsdale succumbed 7-6 in extra innings thus keeping Hinsdale out of the championship game.
